Allan Hugh PETRIE
January 7, 1928 – April 7, 2020
Al Petrie passed away at home on April 7 with his family by his side.
Allan Hugh Petrie was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on January 7, 1928. He was married to Audrey, his beloved wife of 69 years. Al and Audrey met in Calgary in 1948. They were married in 1950 and moved to the Bow Valley which became their home. They spent many wonderful years in and around Seebe, and then in Canmore, their home since 1977.
Al took great delight in sharing all of the stories that came from a 40-year career in the power business while working for Calgary Power / Trans Alta.
Volunteering was a way of life. Community events, Church activities, amateur athletics, and giving time to Provincial and Federal politics were just of few of the many activities that Al was involved with. A special highlight was the 1988 Winter Olympics and the chance to meet athletes, dignitaries and Olympic officials from around the world. Al was very proud of the 20 odd years of doing volunteer senior tax returns only using pen and paper.
Al is survived by his loving wife Audrey, his three children, Patricia (Tom), Leanne (Wayne) and Allan (Shannon); his four grandchildren, Chris, Nicole, Darren, and Barbara; as well as four great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Oliver, Seth and Milo.
Thank you to Dr. Quinlan for all of the wonderful care through the years; thank you to Dr. Wenjie Wang and the staff at the Southern Alberta Renal Program who looked after dad following his diagnosis with kidney disease; and to all of the Homecare team for the kindness and compassion as his journey came to its end.
Funeral services will not be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, please donate your time to those in need, to the causes that make our community such an incredible place or to the PKD Foundation of Canada [email protected] (Polycystic Kidney Disease).
