It’s no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic has made things challenging for the hospitality industry, but the team at The Malcolm, under the direction of General Manager Andrew Shepherd, has been adapting and innovating on the go, ensuring guests continue to receive the outstanding service the hotel is known for, while adhering to and exceeding all safety precautions.
“At The Malcolm, what we really focus on is legendary experiences. We try to make everything as memorable as possible. We provide individual experiences that go above and beyond and raise expectations every time be it the in restaurant or the hotel,” says Shepherd.
COVID has not put an end to the experiences, but merely a pivot. The Malcolm is a boutique facility that has always been set up for smaller events involving 2-300 people. This unique attribute made the pivot even more efficient since experiences geared for smaller groups could be easily accommodated. Just one of the newest experiences on offer is, our Kings Chamber, a private three to five course meal and wine pairing for two in your Royal Suite. The Malcolm also remains accessible for elopements, dates, and small weddings where current restrictions can be observed.
Shepherd says, “Navigating government restrictions and not knowing what the long-term effects will be on conferences, banquets and dining is very challenging, but as with every cloud there is a silver lining. The pandemic has forced us to become even more creative than we already are, and to come up with programs and experiences that align with the regulations, including a concert series this summer.
The Malcolm is known for more than its beautiful facilities and unique events. The hotel and the team give back to the community by supporting the Bow Valley Food Bank, Rocky Mountain Adaptive, Canmore Highland Games, and many more non-profit initiatives.
For Shepherd, however, the success of the hotel relies only in part on the experiences, services, dining, and giving back to the community. “You can never say thank you enough to the team you work with,” he says with deep appreciation. “We are always there for each other. Having the support of your team is the one of the best aspects of the job.”
The Malcolm has been recognized many times over the years with awards and honours; the most recent being The Travelers choice Best of the Best designation, which is only awarded to the top 1% of Hotels worldwide. The Malcolm has also received a finalist nod for a sustainable tourism award and another finalist position in the Alberta Business Awards.
Shepherd concludes, “We look forward to the easing of government restrictions so we can continue to show off the Malcolm to the world in all of it’s glory.” Meanwhile, guests can enjoy the beautiful location, the pandemic-safe activities, and the unbeatable experience the Malcolm will continue to offer so you can have a respite from the stress felt during these changing and challenging times.
