The 2011 Canmore artsPeak Arts Festival is still a couple of months away, but organizers are seeking artists, gallery owners, performers and photographers interested in participating in the annual event.
Those opportunities include artTour, artFair, artLens Community Photography Contest and the street performers festival, artStreet.
Festival director Ric Proctor said Monday (April 11) that artTour, which is open to artists and galleries, has changed this year to include what was once the downtown gallery showcase.
“artTour is more focused. It is still for working artists who have home-based studios or studios in commercial space, but we have also included galleries into the artTour and done away with the artWalk, which was essentially a downtown thing,” he said.
Also, businesses hosting special events will be included as artHappenings held during the festival.
The cost to participate in artTour is $200.
artTour will feature three main clusters, downtown, Elk Run and studio space in Spring Creek Mountain Village, which is being offered to artists who do not have a dedicated studio or space of their own to showcase their work.
For more information about studio space in Spring Creek Mountain Village, contact David Foxcroft at 403-675-8300.
Artists outside of those area, though, are still welcome to participate.
artFair, which has been typically held indoors in one central location, is being moved to the Civic Centre plaza and Ninth Street or the Walk of Champions.
It is designed as a showcase of unique Canadian or Rocky Mountain artwork. Booth rentals for artFair are available for $150.

Amateur photographers, meanwhile, are invited to participate in artLens, the annual Canmore Camera Club community photography contest. This year’s theme is Face of Water in the Bow Valley and will be judged in three categories: Grades 1-9, 10-12 and adults.
Photographers are limited to three entries per person.
The contest deadline is May 20 and more information can be found at www.canmorecameraclub.com
The festival also has an opportunity for street performers to perform alongside artFair in the Civic Centre plaza between 1-7 p.m.
Proctor said he is interested in hearing from local performers.
Registration forms for artTour and artFair are available on the artsPeak website at www.artspeakcanmore.com. Registration closes April 30.
