BANFF – Parks Canada is doing major utility upgrades at the east gate of Banff National Park over the next few weeks, which will change typical traffic patterns and lead to significant traffic delays.

The construction, which is expected to begin Tuesday (April 16) and run until at least May 3 weather permitting, will lead to closure of both through-lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway for eight days and see through-traffic re-directed to Lane 1.

“Lane closures may result in significant delays, so visitors and local residents should plan ahead and give themselves extra time,” states a social media post from Parks Canada.

National park pass sales will continue through the open lanes.

“Please slow down and be mindful of on-site workers. Follow the directions of the signage, video message boards and traffic flaggers,” states Parks Canada.
