Three people from Morley have been charged with second degree murder following the death of a local man during the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.
Ameria Kadre Holloway, 37, Andrew Leigh Pooreagle, 24, and Patrick Striker Holloway, 22, were each charged with second degree murder by Cochrane RCMP last Tuesday (Jan. 4).
Both Holloways appeared in Cochrane Provincial Court on Thursday (Jan. 6) while Pooreagle is set to appear on Jan. 13.
RCMP were called to a Morley home at approximately 3 a.m. on Jan. 1 where they discovered the body of Bearspaw.
An autopsy this week determined the victim died as the result of being stabbed.
Sgt. Patrick Webb said the three accused are “known to police” and have extensive criminal records.
“The three accused and the victim were known to each other… it was not random,” Webb said.
The murder took place at a New Year’s party on the reserve and Webb said while alcohol was involved, there is no indication of any gang involvment.
Webb said the murder charges were laid as a result of evidence gathered at the scene, searches of two residences and a vehicle as well as witness statements and interviews with the accused.
