William (Bill) Frank Cherak passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 in the town of Canmore, where he was also born. Bill will be sadly missed by his sons Stephen (Maureen) and Patrick (Shelagh), grandchildren
Trent, Stephana, Nialls, and Michal, along with numerous nephews and nieces. Eight months earlier, Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years Maxine, and before her, parents Stephen and Julia Cherak, brothers Joe, John, Stan (Arbella), and sister Anne (Henry Ness).
Bill’s father Stephen moved to Canmore in 1902 where he worked as a motorman in the Canmore Mines and later became a watchman. His mother Julia was born in Poland and she came to Canmore in 1922. Bill’s contributions to the town of Canmore are immeasurable. At the age of 94, Bill’s life was a tapestry of dedication, service, and joy.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at The Shrine Church of Our Lady of the Rockies (2 Silvertip Trail) in Canmore on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 12:00 PM. Reception to follow from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Canmore Golf & Curling Club (2000 8 Avenue) where family and friends may celebrate Bill’s legacy together.
