A capital project to install a fuelling station for Town of Canmore vehicles was cut from the 2011 budget last week.
Councillor Ed Russell made the motion to remove the $28,000 project to purchase and install an above ground 5,000-litre fuelling station and dispensing system at the public works yard.
“It might be a nice luxury, but I don’t think this is a project with enough value to it,” Russell said.
The project summary in the budget makes the business case that the Town purchases an average of 40,000 litres of gasoline annually and currently receives a 60 cents per litre discount from local vendors.
It states there is a further cost savings of six cents/litre if gasoline is purchased in bulk, saving the Town $2,400 a year with a 12-year return on investment.
The motion passed with a 4-3 split.
