David Gellatly
1954 - 2024
David Ross Gellatly, a beloved member of the Canmore, Alberta community, unexpectedly passed away from natural causes on May 12, 2024, at the age of 70.
David was born on February 17, 1954, in Almonte, Ontario, and grew up in Kitchener, Ontario. He is survived by his loving parents Doug and Marion Gellatly (nee Eckel), and his loving siblings Karen Bruce (Larry), Jane Burgess (Rob) and Shelagh Ois (Harald). He was the dear uncle to his niece and 5 nephews.
David's dedication to his work was evident in his long-term service at Sobeys, in Canmore, where he made a lasting impact on colleagues and customers alike. In his free time, he generously volunteered at the Canmore Highland Games, showcasing his commitment to community and culture.
David found solace in the beauty of nature and the tranquility of the Canadian Rocky mountains. Always sociable, David was known for striking up friendly conversations on a whim with acquaintances. He enjoyed spending time with his morning coffee crew at the community coffee shop, where he shared laughter and stories with friends. He cherished his pet, “Ode the cat”, who brought him comfort and joy. David had a profound love and knowledge of coffee and music, with a special fondness for 1970s classic hard rock.
David will be deeply missed by all who knew him, his memory cherished and his legacy celebrated. May he rest in peace. Celebration of Life details will be provided at a later date.
