DONNA LORRAINE LARSEN
May 27, 1943 – November 24, 2023
Donna Lorraine Larsen (nee Boyson) passed away suddenly on Friday, November 24, 2023, at the Peter Lougheed Center in Calgary at the age of 80.
A Catholic Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 1:00 pm at The Shrine Church of Our Lady of The Rockies (2 Silvertip Trail, Canmore). Rev. Pilmaiken Lezano will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Canmore Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Ryan Larsen (Jodi) of Lafayette, Louisiana and Loreen Schmidt (Darren) of Okotoks, AB; her beloved grandchildren, Blake, Hayden, Gavin and Jade; great-grandchildren, Ella, Rhett and Luke; numerous nieces and nephews; and her faithful canine companion,”Nikki”. Donna cherished her family and was honorary grandmother to many, including Sarah, Justin, and Raeleigh; just to name a few.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Herman Arthur (Art) Larsen; her siblings, Allan Boyson, Brian Boyson and Carol Boyson Crosbie; and her parents, Magdalene and John (Jack) Boyson.
Donna was a native of Kincaid, Saskatchewan and was a long-time resident of Canmore. She married the love of her life, Herman Arthur (Art) Larsen on May 9, 1964, and together they raised two children, Ryan and Loreen. Donna was a doting mother and grandmother and cherished her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy as Donna was present at every hockey game, graduation or special event, and loved spending as much time with them as she could. She enjoyed the outdoors, working on projects “tinkering” around her home and visiting with her neighbors and friends in Canmore. She took pride in her yard, loved gardening, and enjoyed watching various wildlife from her front window including deer, bear and elk. In quieter moments, Donna found her peace in the pages of a good book. Her joy in reading was matched only by her enthusiasm for sharing the knowledge she gained. Donna was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Rockies Catholic Church for many years where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Donna’s heart shone brightest in her dedication to her family and to helping others. She cared for her husband, Art, for many years at their home, making sure that he had everything he needed as he went through his illness. Her generosity knew no bounds, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met. Donna leaves behind memories of family, laughter, and kindness. May her spirit continue to inspire us and her legacy be a testament to the beauty that a life well-lived can bring to the world.
