Edmonton Oilers sign forward Mike Hoffman to professional tryout

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oilers announced Wednesday that they have signed forward Mike Hoffman to a professional tryout.

The 34-year-old from Kitchener, Ont., had 10 goals and 13 assists in 66 games with the San Jose Sharks last season.

Ottawa selected Hoffman in the fifth round of the 2009 NHL draft.

He spent seven seasons with Ottawa before stopping in Florida, St. Louis and Montreal.

Hoffman has 228 goals, 259 assists and 267 penalty minutes over 745 career NHL games.

He has 11 goals and nine assists over 33 playoff appearances.
