Evelyne Margrete Nettesheim
April 15, 1926 – Jan. 7, 2024
Evy Nettesheim passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at the age of 97.
Evy was born in Cologne Germany and immigrated to Canada with her husband Hans and their only son, Henjo in 1954. They settled in Toronto where they lived until Han’s death in 2014.
Evy moved to the Origin retirement residence in Canmore shortly after in order to be close to her immediate family.
Evy worked in a management capacity for CORO Industries a jewelry distribution company. She loved her job and finally retired at the age of 67 at the insistence of her husband. Their life in Toronto was filled with many parties and outings with friends and relatives, weekends at the family cottage, winters in Florida and an abundance of travel after retirement including several trips to Las Vegas. Evy loved to gamble.
After moving to Canmore at the age of 90, Evy enjoyed the company of her grand daughters Katy (h. Brett) and Carly (h. AJ.) and her great grand children Matilda, Tessa and Theo and her Daughter in Law Debbie (h. Henjo). In the early days in Canmore
Evy was frequently accompanied by her care giver Jackie Baker on several shopping outings including trips to the Casino in Kananaskis and in Calgary. Eventually her eye site and cognitive abilities gave out and the poker slots were no longer an option. She was relegated to watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune with her son 2 to 3 times a week always asking who won and how much.
A family celebration of life was held in Calgary where photos of her life in Germany, Toronto and Canmore were poured over by the family along with many anecdotes.
The favorite expression that the grand kids always remembered Oma saying was
“I have to get the line out” in reference to getting the jewelry line distributed to various locations in the country. She will be missed.
Special thanks to Dr. Michael Quinlan, Jackie Baker, the Canmore hospital
and the staff at Origins Spring Creek for their kindness and support.
