An excellent opportunity is coming this fall for those with a strong desire to create change in their communities. Field Law, a regional firm with deep roots in Alberta and the Northwest Territories, is dedicated to community support and innovation, and is offering substantial funding for non-profit organizations focused on making a positive impact through its Community Fund Program.

Since 2013, Field Law has provided support to dozens of amazing causes in Alberta and the Northwest Territories. A total of $835,000 has been awarded in support of 144 projects to date.

Applications for this year’s Community Fund Program are now open through to October 3, 2024. Residents of the Bow Valley, and all those from across Alberta and the Northwest Territories will then be able to vote for their favourite ideas starting October 10, 2024.

$80,000 to be awarded - plus something new

The Field Law Community Fund Program has awarded $75,000 each year to deserving individuals and organizations with impactful, charitable initiatives. The influence of this program extends beyond the recipients and creates a lasting imprint on the communities they serve.

New this year, Field Law is adding a $5,000 Next Gen Award for post-secondary students with innovative ideas to benefit their communities, on or off campus. This award has the potential to make a significant impact by addressing essential student needs, such as technology upgrades, campus food banks or student legal assistance, just to name a few examples.

Nordiq Canada Success Story

Among the notable 2023 recipients is Nordiq Canada, where funding from the Community Fund Program is making a significant difference in the Canmore area. Thanks to these funds, Nordiq Canada is working to accumulate a fleet of sit-ski sleds, breaking down barriers for new Para-Nordic athletes and making the sport more accessible.

The new sit-ski sleds will be used by ski clubs for ‘try-it’ yourself events and support athletes at the Canmore Nordic Centre’s training and development camps. A highlight is the annual development camp in Canmore, where these sleds will be essential. At the camp, aspiring Para-Nordic athletes receive coaching from Paralympian and head coach Brian McKeever, along with classification assessments, wellness presentations, and the unique experience of skiing with their Paralympic heroes. Nordiq Canada’s initiative exemplifies the Field Law Community Fund Program’s mission, showcasing how targeted support fosters significant community impact.

Other Notable 2023 Recipients

In addition to Nordiq Canada, several other remarkable organizations were awarded in 2023:

  • Made by Momma: Supports over 12,000 food-insecure Calgarians annually.
  • Stepping Stones Crisis Society: Funds helped to establish a new crisis service centre to offer transitional housing for survivors of violence.
  • The Linking Generations Society of Alberta: Launched their Share and Care Program.
