As you put together your to-do list of must-see/must-do items this summer, you’ll have a chance to try a host of new and exciting destinations. Here are five of them.
Bow Valley SUP & Surf, Bow Valley
Surf’s up! … isn’t something you hear a lot of in Alberta. But you can surf in this province thanks, in part, to Bow Valley SUP & Surf. SUP means “stand up paddleboard.” It’s the prefect activity if you are not ready to surf waves, but still want a great, interactive, on-water experience. Bow Valley SUP & Surf rents SUPs, kayaks, surfboards, and wetsuits. They also provide lessons and tours. You’re sure to fall in love with the sport, so they also provide an online store for when you’re ready to purchase your own equipment.
Lethbridge & District Exhibition Park’s Events, Lethbridge
There is a lot going on in Lethbridge and one way to find out what’s happening is to stay tuned to the Lethbridge & District Exhibition Park’s website. Farmer’s Markets, a BBQ judging clinic, the Smoke Wind and Fire competition – you’ll find exciting things to do in Lethbridge all summer long. Exhibition Park has deep roots in the community. It’s the fourth oldest Ag society in Alberta. Since 1897 it has hosted a variety of agricultural themed events including trade shows, midways, rodeos and more.
Constable Chelsey Robinson Park, Parkland County
One of the County’s newer parks, Chelsey Robinson sits on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. Here is where you can escape alone to take advantage of a beautiful river view, or come with friends and family to have lunch at one of the 16 picnic sites. Fishing and watersports round out your nature-filled day. Fire pits with firewood and washrooms are available for free. Well behaved leashed dogs are welcome. You’ll find this treasure in Parkland County at 2303 TWP RD 510.
Royal Alberta Museum, Edmonton
Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) looks forward to welcoming guests back this summer. Long-term residents of Edmonton fondly remember the Royal’s first location that opened in 1967. RAM moved in 2018 to a new 419,000 square foot facility downtown, opening to reveal updated favourite exhibits alongside a host of new and exciting installations. RAM is the largest museum in Western Canada and it continues to make history as it helps Albertans find and understand our place in the world. From dinosaurs to geology, from history to the future, you’ll learn more about it all at the RAM.
The World’s Largest Mallard Duck, Andrews
The Village of Andrew is a small, charming place where you’ll find fuel and refreshments as you travel east of Edmonton. You’ll also find the world’s largest Mallard duck! A 23 foot of wingspan elevates this 1 tonne statue. You’ll want to stop for a selfie with the town’s claim-to-fame. While in Andrew, be sure to check out the town’s other attractions, like the local museum that is open for private tours.
