BOW VALLEY - Residents and visitors are being advised to protect themselves from very high temperatures in the Bow Valley and Kananaskis Country this weekend.
In a Saturday (Aug. 1) report, Environment Canada issued heat warnings for Banff National Park, Canmore, MD of Bighorn and Kananaskis Country, stating temperatures are expected to reach or exceed 29C with overnight lows near 14C.
“Monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness,” a statement said. “Pay particular attention to individuals that can experience earlier or more severe effects from heat including infants, children, seniors, and individuals with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions, outdoor workers, as well as those who are socially isolated.”
The Town of Banff is asking people to bring their own drinking water because water fountains are closed due to COVID-19 virus protection.
Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for #Banff. Be prepared: bring water because water fountains are closed for virus protection; have a COVID kit with a couple masks for each person, hand santitizer/cleaning wipes. https://t.co/4RmDenqulM

Environment Canada suggests for people to consider postponing outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day; take frequent breaks from the heat and spend time in cooler spaces when possible; and to stay hydrated.
