BANFF – Having fun isn’t hard when you’re part of the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation’s Adopt-A-School program.
Banff Elementary School has been “adopted” by Cascade Malls’ Indigospirits store, which will help the school to fundraise for new library resources.
“With an inadequate library budget of less than $30 per student for the entire year, this local school will now have an opportunity to upgrade its library collection and enrich the lives and education of its students,” stated a press release from Indigo’s Love of Reading Foundation.
The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation’s Adopt a School program partners a school with a store in the area. Schools select 50 books on an online registry and for every book that’s purchased from the schools registry, Indigo promises to donate a second copy of the same book.
“I think it’s really important that students are aware there’s support outside of our immediate school community,” said BES Principal, Debbie McKibbon.
“The community at large is very supportive and also shares the same values. We know that reading is a fundamental skill and supports academic success from Grade 1 to post-secondary … [It] supports learning, so it’s nice to know there’s support for literacy and it's valued.”
The Adopt-A-School program has engaged 182 schools across Canada, according to the the company.
“Supporters can participate by making a donation in-store or through the Adopt a School registry at indigo.ca,” the release stated.
