K-Country avalanche sends 3 to hospital

KANANASKIS – Three people are in hospital after an avalanche on a Kananaskis Country mountain on Saturday evening (May 11).

KANANASKIS – Three people are in hospital after an avalanche on a Kananaskis Country mountain on Saturday evening (May 11).

Calgary Zone AHS-EMS reported a male teen and adult female were in "serious, but non-life threatening condition" and rushed to Calgary Foothills hospital by ground ambulance from the Fortress Junction area.

There were no updates on their conditions after they arrived at hospital.

In the same incident, STARS Air Ambulance reported an adult female was airlifted to hospital.

There was no update on her condition after she arrived.

“Just after 6 p.m., EMS was called to Fortress Junction for a number of injured individuals,” said Helene Hamilton, spokesperson for Calgary Zone AHS-EMS.

In a Facebook post, Kananaskis Country Public Safety wrote eight individuals were caught in an avalanche on Mount Lawson.
