LAKE LOUISE – The body of a man who fell into the North Saskatchewan River in Banff National Park has yet to be found after he went missing this weekend.
On Saturday (July 25), the man was hiking with two others when they stopped for photos along the Glacier Lake Trail in the national park when he fell in and was swept away, according to RCMP.
Lake Louise RCMP Sgt. Gerald Walker said the 23-year-old male is from Calgary and was with friends when he fell in.
"The [friends] stopped to take a photo and basically turned around and saw the person falling in," Walker said.
Lake Louise RCMP, Parks Canada and the Lake Louise Fire Department responded to the incident around 7 p.m. but have yet to locate the missing person.
Lake Louise RCMP officials said the incident is considered accidental and not suspicious.
“Parks Canada Visitor Safety specialists are working closely with the Lake Louise RCMP to conduct a search and rescue operation,” Cpl. Ronald Bumbry wrote in a Sunday (July 26) night press release.
“The search operation has been ongoing since [Saturday] night.”
