Shockwaves will be felt tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow if we’re intimidated by fear today.
I was in the Canmore council chambers a month ago when the Three Sisters Mountain Village Properties Limited (TSMVPL) area structure plans got approved against the will of council. They voted yes because of the fear of the potential ramifications of the $161 million strategic lawsuit against public participation (SLAPP) suit hanging over them.
Then a couple of weeks ago we all received the now infamous letter from TSMVPL minority owner, Blair Richardson, where he tried to instill the same fear in all of us.
These two events have made me see what’s going on in our town more clearly than ever: A few billionaires are running roughshod over us. Why? So billions more can be made through real estate speculation. People who don’t need more money will make more of it tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the needs of our human and animal communities will be left unmet. We’ll be poorer as a result.
These are incredibly critical times for our town. This is not the time to sit back, we have to stay engaged. We can stand up to bullies. The time between now and when shovels hit the ground is our window to get all or parts of this land bought and protected forever. This is not over. Leanne Allison,
