Today is the day: the first Jasper residents evacuated by a monster wildfire July 23 return to their homes.
They’ll find a very different townsite than the one they left, with largely unaffected “green” zones side-by-side with devastated “red zones,” where the blaze left nothing but driveways, foundations and chimneys.
Today’s return is for residents only. Here are some photos from returnees on social media.
This feed will be refreshed throughout the day. With their first post, the Jasper Fire Brigade could not have said it better: “Welcome home, Jasper.”
As residents return to #Jasper, we're ready to meet them there. Our Mobile Response Unit (MRU) will be in Jasper from August 16 - 19 to support our members impacted by devastating wildfires.
