When Chef Tim Matsell designed the menu for Table Food + Drink at Canmore’s Coast Hotel, he wanted to create something special for Bow Valley locals: a weekly escape from tourist-town prices without sacrificing quality ingredients or experience. What he came up with were four weekly specials that have become Canmore classics for weeknight dinners with friends.
Make Monday the ultimate date night with a Chateaubriand dinner for two. Start with your choice of soup or salad then enjoy the main event: a 14-oz. Chateaubriand steak with duck-fat-and-herb-roasted potatoes, seasonal vegetables, fried Brussels sprouts, bearnaise sauce and a red-wine demi glace. Finish off with your choice of dessert. We love the Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie! At just $99, you can afford to add a bottle from the restaurant’s great wine list.
Feed the whole family on Tuesdays with Chicken Dinner for Four. Featuring a whole roasted chicken, creamy mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables and a house-made chicken gravy your fab four eats for just $39. At that price, treat yourself to some dessert too!
On Wednesdays, enjoy a small charcuterie board featuring locally-sourced meats and Canadian and international cheeses for a savoury nosh at just $15.95. Bring a friend and add wine to complete the experience.
Flex your mussels on Thursdays with great prices on fresh, meaty mussels. At $18.95 for a dozen large mussels or $10.95 for a half-dozen small ones, you can enjoy everyone’s favourite shellfish at a great price. Add two slices of chewy garlic bread ($3) and seasonal vegetables ($6) to make it a meal.
Chef Tim says one of his favourite parts of the job is seeing groups of locals gathered together laughing and talking over great food and drink.
“You start to see the same people after a while and you know you’re offering something they love and gives them value,” he says. “These features have become a weekly tradition for some.”
