It’s amazing how government at any level takes it upon themselves to tell the citizenry what they can and cannot do with their property, possessions and money. Whether it’s confiscatory taxation or meddling in minutiae, people find a way to do it.
When Cidnee Wind says, “Why should we be allowed to park these vehicles in driveways and yards 365 days a year when they are only being used for a few weeks a year? Why should the majority have to put up with the clutter of the minority?” – I simply say, “…Because it’s their private property.” What a concept.
The success that people experience financially, or the debt they incur, is utilized to purchase RVs and these RVs are the way some of the fine people of Canmore choose to enjoy the wonderful environment we call the Canadian Rockies.
They pay for the property, they pay for the taxes assessed on that property, they pay for the RV that is in the yard. It’s not necessary or fair to penalize someone for their right to own and enjoy something.
Give people a break. Second home owners that pay full tax rates get berated. RV owners get hassled for having something in their yard.
What’s next? I know, let’s ban satellite dishes on roofs because it ruins one’s asthetic perceptions of what a skyline should look like.
