How do you turn $135,000.00 into $270,000 to help Japan?
It’s easy when you combine the Japanese Society in Banff and The Banff Rotary Club.
Together they presented a Night for Japan on Tuesday (March 29), which was hosted by Wild Bill’s Saloon in Banff.
The event was complete with silent auction, live auction, a donation table and a 50/50 draw. Approximately 400 Valley residents attended and showed their generosity to the fullest. All donations over $50 will qualify for a charitable tax deduction.
In all, $135,000 was raised at the event, thanks in large part to Banff Park Lodge, which generously donated $100,000. This will be deposited with The Rotary Foundation Canada, to be credited to The Rotary Japan and Pacific Island 2011 Disaster Recovery Fund (www.trfcanada.org).
This will be matched by The Rotary World Fund, and translates to $270,000. These funds will be administrated by the Rotary Foundation overseeing local Rotary Clubs in Japan and utilized to replace damaged or lost hospital equipment, school equipment and other crucial equipment as determined by Rotary Clubs on the scene.
The Banff Rotary Club and The Japanese Society in Banff wish to thank the community, Wild Bill’s and The Banff Park Lodge for their generous support.
