LAKE LOUISE – The continued partnership between Parks Canada and Roam Transit means more options for visitors and residents to travel to and from Lake Louise this summer.
The updated summer transit initiatives were announced Friday (April 26) by the Bow Valley Regional Transit Services Commission, which operates Roam Transit.
Beginning May 17, the Roam regional express route between Banff and Lake Louise along the Trans-Canada Highway this summer will begin with increased frequency. As of June 21, once roadwork is complete on the Bow Valley Parkway, Roam will include a scenic route to Lake Louise.
The direct route between downtown Banff and Johnston Canyon will continue its service as well, also once roadwork along the parkway is complete after June 21.
“There are many great ways to explore Banff National Park where you don’t have to worry about parking,” said Parks Canada visitor experience manager Greg Danchuk. “Parks Canada is pleased to continue its partnership with Bow Valley Regional Transit Services Commission to provide a number of transit options to and within Banff National Park including the Calgary to Banff service.
“This supports Parks Canada’s commitment to preserving our national parks, while providing visitors with the best opportunities for high-quality and meaningful experiences.”
Both Parks and Roam are encouraging visitors to plan ahead and take advantage of the transit options available to them.
That includes the return of the On-It regional transit service from Calgary to Canmore and Banff. That service begins on May 18 and as of June 28 will include a Friday evening trip.
Travellers will also be able to bring their bikes with them, if they reserve space for their two-wheels in advance.
On-It, operated by Southland Transportation, provides Calgarians the opportunity to leave their car behind and get to Canmore or Banff without the hassle of traffic or high gas prices. Travellers on the service are also able to transfer to Roam routes at no extra charge.
“The Commission, along with Parks Canada and our municipal partners the Town of Banff and the Town of Canmore, are pleased to see On-It headed back to the Bow Valley,” said Chief Administrative Officer Martin Bean.
“On-It is an invaluable part of the local transportation system and is instrumental in helping visitors get to the valley without the use of their vehicle.”
