Sometimes the distance between a dream and reality is vast, but when you are a hardworking, focused entrepreneur like Ankit Ralhan, that distance is not insurmountable. In 2015 Ralhan had the idea to open a small rolls shop featuring delicious Indian cuisine. The shop opened in 2021 – during the pandemic.
“It took time to find a place,” Ralhan says. “We had looked at several locations including Banff. Finally, I found our current location (113, 304 Old Canmore Road) and signed the lease on September 1, 2020. Things were delayed again due to COVID – construction, slow deliveries, etc. But we finally opened on August 27!”
Roaring Rolls’ reputation quickly spread, with good reviews (5/5 to date on Google) pouring in. Some of the most popular items are the chicken kathi roll, crispy cauliflower, and chicken “meatballs” (their play on butter chicken).
“Everyone should try the dal makhani bowl.” advises Ralhan. “It features black lentils that are simmered overnight and served with rice. For dessert, try the saffron crème brulee. I tried crème brulee five years ago after coming to Canada and decided to add it to the menu after infusing it with saffron and cardamom.”
The modern fusion and selection of rolls alongside more traditional menu items, such as tandoori delights, is a real win with diners.
“Come on in and give us a try,” invites Ralhan. “We use as many natural and organic products as possible and everything is made with a lot of authenticity, love, and effort from our chef Jaspreet and the team. He takes his time prepping using the best ingredients. I want everyone to see how good this food can be.”
