KANANASKIS – Bold wolves roaming a Kananaskis Country campsite have prompted a warning from authorities.
Alberta Parks issued the wolf warning at Sundance Lodges in the Evan-Thomas Provincial Recreation Area on Sept. 1 until further notice.
“Multiple wolves frequenting the area, displaying bold behaviour in closely passing occupied campsites,” the warning stated.
“If you are approached by a wolf, act aggressively to discourage it from approaching any closer.”
Alberta Parks said wolves can be encountered anywhere in Kananaskis and to minimize your chance of running into one, they recommend:
- Never approach, entice or feed wildlife.
- Ensure all food, garbage, pet food and other scented items are not left unattended at any time of day or night and are stored inside a vehicle.
- Keep children close.
- Keep your pet on a leash at all times.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Leave the area if you see or smell a carcass.
- Have bear spray accessible and know how to use it.
Report wolf sightings and carcass locations to 403-591-7755.
