William James Glennon

Bill was born at nurse Hurcomb’s house on Banff Avenue. He attended school in Banff and some of his teachers were Billy Alexander, Bobby Roberts, and Miss Gratz. As a young boy, Bill spent his time at Ike Mills riding stables and made some money caddying at the Banff Springs golf course. Bill was a Boy Scout when King George visited Banff. He played hockey and also skied a little at Norquay. Bill Waterworth taught him to swim by pushing him in the deep end at the cave and basin. Bill‘s grandfather Josh Glennon was a steam engineer at the cave and basin. His mother Mary lived in Banff her whole life until she had to go into a home in Canmore. His sister Gwen lived in Saskatoon and she and her husband Art, Jim and Gord their sons would visit Banff when they could to keep an eye on their mom and enjoy all that the Banff area offered.
Bill left home in April 1943 to join the Navy and served Canada’s east and west coast and also in the north Atlantic. In April 1946 Bill went to work for the government as a carpenter’s helper, he worked up to tradesmen, building and then Inspector. He retired in October 1977, and moved to Windermere BC. At that time only his youngest Teresa was still at home and went to school in Invermere. Bill and his wife Gwen decided to move again and in 1983 they moved to Naramata BC.
Bill met his wife in the Mandarin café and married her April 26, 1947. Together they raised five kids: 1) Bruce, wife Caryl, girls Alana and Jackie, 2) Colleen, son Kade 3) Billy, wife Roseann, daughter Kala, 4) Tammy, partner Curtis, sons Jesse and Jason and daughter Janet, 5) Teresa, husband Bob, and Blue the faithful companion. When the house in Naramata got too big for Bill and Gwen to look after they moved into the town of Penticton into a trailer. They lived there until each of them passed away. Gwen passed in 2015 and Bill kept the fires burning until his passing.
