BOW VALLEY – Local filmmakers searching for a platform to showcase their latest masterpiece need look no further.
As the second annual Bow Valley Film Tour prepares for showtime this summer, its organizer is calling out to visual storytellers looking to get on the big screen.
“In our area, we still have so much story needing to be told,” said organizer Rongqin Su of DioDio Studio in Canmore.
“That’s why we came up with this idea for the Bow Valley filmmakers to tell a meaningful story with the communities.”
Starting August 8 and 10 at artsPlace in Canmore, Bow Valley Film Tour (BVFT) to date has seven films made by five filmmakers, including Spindrift: The Barry Blanchard Story, Late in 88, The Nomad, Old Mountain, A Blue Shangri-la, and The Great Divide.
The tour travels to Cochrane Movie House in Cochrane on Aug. 24, Globe Cinema in Calgary on Aug. 30, and Lux Cinema in Banff on Sept. 7.
Over the past few weeks, Su has been contacting movie makers in hopes of building a more tight-knit community. He thinks BVFT will inspire the movement.
“It’s about bringing filmmakers together and supporting each other,” he said.
There is a little bit of wiggle room for entries and/or inquiries, but Su wants any filmmakers interested to reach out as soon as possible.

About The Films
Spindrift: The Barry Blanchard Story is about a well-known Canmore alpinist who suffered a horrific head injury, his recovery and his return to the mountains.
Late in 88 explores the blurred lines of truth and memory as two grade school classmates share their experiences of being queer and gender non-conforming in Calgary in 1988 when these identities were fringe and undefinable.
The Nomad follows the journey of eight bike riders proving you don’t have to be the best to just love it.
Old Mountain is the story of a 74-year-old man still finding love in the mountains. Despite his body slowing down, Lorne Short still skis, with his loyal dog, Messy, chasing closely behind.
A Blue Shangri-la is the story of three friends teamiht up to embark on a climbing expedition in an isolated canyon in British Columbia called Icefall Brook.
The Great Divide is a story of the Whelans, a Canmore family, with father “Adventure Dan” leading an expedition across snowy mountains to see the glaciers before they melt and cease to exist. With adult children and injuries piling up for Dan, it’s “now or never” to see one of the great wonders of the world.
