CANMORE – Canmore RCMP are investigating an incident where a member of the public was approached by a man who falsely identified himself as a police officer.
On Friday (July 27), at approximately 6:30 p.m., RCMP received a complaint of a man impersonating a police officer in the parking lot of Save-On-Foods.
The complainant left the grocery store and was approached by two males as she returned to her vehicle, according to a press release from Cpl. Sabrina Clayton with Canmore RCMP.
The complainant was in her vehicle when one of the two males asked her to roll down her window, claimed to be a police officer and began asking her questions. Clayton indicated the woman did not comply and when the male asked her to exit her vehicle she asked to see his identification, at which point both males left the area.
The suspect is described as being five feet and eight inches to five feet and 10 inches tall; Caucasian with muscular build, wearing a baseball cap, light bright green tank top, khaki shorts and running shoes.
Both men were last seen walking westbound between the Save-On-Foods parking lot and Canadian Tire.
Canmore RCMP would also like to remind the public to be vigilant. If a person claims to be a police officer without a proper uniform, ask them for their identification or badge. Clayton said this information should be provided without issue and if anyone is concerned for their safety, to lock themselves in their vehicle and call 911.
