I would like to commend Canmore council for accepting the new Climate Emergency Action Plan. By providing a strategic map guiding our community into a brighter future, council has shown their commitment to climate leadership. The plan is available on the Town website and it is concise and well written.
Now, the hard work begins. For this plan to affect positive change, it’s up to us – the Canmore community – to collaboratively engage with each other toward a better future. Of course, this will require compromises and carefully listening to all points of view. But the principles of mitigation – reducing emissions – and adaptation – building community resilience – are well stated in the plan.
As the business community has a high degree of influence over the plan’s success, I would urge businesses, developers, and Bow Valley Builders and Developers Association (BOWDA) to turn toward this opportunity and work within the framework. Together we can "future-proof" our Town’s infrastructure by adhering to building guidelines and greenhouse gas emission reductions as per the plan.
Let’s all support this visionary initiative and move forward for the benefit of our grandchildren.
Scott Diehl,
Canmore
