LETTER: Canmore council should focus on must haves instead of wants, new initiatives

LETTER: I believe Town council needs to start focusing on the "must haves" and defer the "wants" and "new initiatives" until they can be fit in with an annual budget that keeps annual property tax increases a lot lower than in recent years.

In regards to the story "Canmore reopening door on vacant homes issue" in the June 27 edition of the Outlook.

If Town council decides to adopt a sub-class property tax bracket for non-permanent resident owners, the only "initiative" council needs to put the extra money collected from this tax is to lower permanent resident's taxes.

In recent years, it seems Town council is using the taxpayer as an ATM with no limit on withdrawals. The recent year's property tax increases show this. I believe Town council needs to start focusing on the "must haves" and defer the "wants" and "new initiatives" until they can be fit in with an annual budget that keeps annual property tax increases a lot lower than in recent years.
