As a property owner and taxpayer in this beautiful town of Canmore, I was impressed that mayor and council decided to step back, pause and reflect on the installation of four electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at its July meeting.
I do not believe municipal tax dollars should be expended to provide fueling facilities of any kind for any type of vehicle. Free enterprise has provided fueling stations since vehicles were invented, increasing in numbers as demand for fuel increased.
We are in climate change worldwide, which affects everyone, and major steps must be taken in an attempt to stop rising temperatures. Our federal government has thrown billions of dollars into efforts to change climate conditions but many programs have not been effective. It seems they are “cart before the horse” attempts.
We in Alberta have numerous “brownouts” in our electric grid throughout the year due to a lack of electric energy being produced and demand increasing. I believe, along with many others, that our hydro generating must increase before we put an even greater burden on the system, such as more EV charging facilities.
Let “free enterprise” install, finance and operate fueling stations of all types for the motoring public.
