DEAD MAN’S FLATS – A 43-year-old man was arrested by police after allegedly pointing a toy gun at another driver while travelling on the Trans-Canada Highway, Aug. 18.
According to the RCMP, police received a complaint at about 9:30 a.m. that the driver of a westbound vehicle had pointed a firearm at the driver of another vehicle while it was passing.
RCMP members from Canmore were in the area and quickly located the suspect vehicle near Dead Man’s Flats and arrested the driver. A plastic toy pistol was also found in the vehicle.
RCMP Sgt. Stan Andronyk said the incident was not related to the shooting of a German tourist earlier this month who was shot in the head while driving along Highway 1A west of Morley.
“There is nothing to indicate the two incidents are related in any way,” wrote Andronyk.
Police have yet to release the name of the 43-year-old Calgary man because charges are still pending, however, police intend to charge the man with assault with a weapon and using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence.
