LAKE LOUISE – Emergency services are on the scene of a motor coach rollover at the Columbia Icefield Adventure Saturday afternoon (July 18).
A spokesperson with EMS said they could not confirm number or status of patients due to the remote location of the scene. They confirmed one of the ice tour vehicles was involved and there is the possibility of multiple fatalities.
RCMP media relations spokesperson Cpl. Leigh Drinkwater said the rollover occurred at the Columbia Icefield, located along Highway 93 around 1 p.m.
He said RCMP and other emergency services are on scene and are asking people to stay away from the area at this time to allow access.
Jasper RCMP are working with local fire departments, EMS, STARS air ambulance and Parks Canada.
"The investigation is in the preliminary stages and updates will be provided as they become available," wrote Drinkwater in an RCMP press release.
STARS Air Ambulance helicopters from Calgary, Edmonton and Grande Prairie responded according to a social media post.

The Columbia Icefield Adventure is 160 kilometres from Banff and 108 km from Jasper. The visitor experience is operated by Pursuit and takes guests to the toe of the Athabasca Glacier, which forms part of the icefield.
According to the company's website, the specially designed Ice Explorers can fit up to 56 passengers.
