STONEY NAKODA – One man is in serious condition after a motorcycle crash on Highway 1A on Saturday (June 15).
Around 4:30 p.m., Cochrane EMS and STARS air ambulance responded to a motorcycle versus auto vehicle collision on Highway 1A by River Bend Road and Spring Road, approximately 4.5 kms northwest of Morley, according to EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux.
STAR 1 air ambulance from Calgary was dispatched and transported a male, approximately 69-years-old, to Foothills Medical Centre, STARS communication lead Tammy Yamkowy wrote.
The man was in serious condition, Brideaux confirmed.
Cochrane RCMP said it will not be laying charges in the incident.
"It looks like the motorcycle driver crossed the centre line into the oncoming vehicle and due to the fact there were no other injuries sustained by people in the other vehicle, there will be no charges laid," Const. Thomas with Cochrane RCMP said.
Earlier this year, Alberta RCMP shared motorcycle safety tips in May for motorcycle safety month, reminding motorcyclists to adopt safe driving behaviours, such as gearing up, stay bright and in sight, drive defensively and to remember practice makes perfect.
"With season change and warming weather, motorcycles are prevalent on our roadways," Supt. Gary Graham, Alberta RCMP Traffic Services spokesperson wrote in a press release.
He noted that last year there were 12 fatalities on Alberta roads and more than 230 motorcycles involved in injury collision.
"These numbers are a good reason to raise awareness about safe motorcycling so that we all get to our destinations safely," Graham said.
