ÎYÂRHE NAKODA – A serious collision on Îyârhe (Stoney) Nakoda First Nation has led to both lanes of Highway 1A west of Ghost Lake Village being blocked.
RCMP said Highway 1A will be blocked in both directions as an investigation is completed.
“Highway 1A is impassable in both directions as RCMP remain on scene while they conduct their investigation,” said Const. Lauren Mowbray, a public information officer with Alberta RCMP, in a media release. “Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.”
Police said detours have been set up on Highway 1A between Morley and Jamieson roads.
RCMP said the collision took place at 5:17 p.m., with Cochrane RCMP and Alberta RCMP integrated traffic unit responding as well as STARS and other emergency crews.
“I can confirm that STAR-1 transported a patient with trauma related injuries from a motor vehicle collision in the Ghost Lake area to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary,” said STARS communications officer Jonah van Driesum.
