STONEY NAKODA – Members of the Wesley First Nation elected Clifford Poucette as its new chief, as well as four councillors on Dec. 7.
Unofficial results indicate Poucette was elected with 184 votes, or 28 per cent of the popular vote, unseating the incumbent chief Ernest Wesley who finished third with 132 votes. A total of 647 votes were cast for chief.
Voters also elected four councillors including Rufus Twoyoungmen and Krista Hunter. Hank Snow was re-elected and Shane Crawler was re-elected for the Big Horn community.
The four-year term in office officially began on Dec. 9 and expires on Dec. 8, 2022.
The official tally for councillors was unavailable as of press time, however the results were confirmed by Indigenous Services Canada.
